Dolomites off-season

Autumn in the Dolomites, a fascinating season for outdoor activities

Peaceful adventures amid changing seasons

Spring and autumn in the Dolomites are ideal seasons for those seeking a quiet, more intimate connection with nature. The region’s mild Alpine climate, moderated by its location on the southern side of the Alps, offers a peaceful escape, far from the crowds of summer. With elevations ranging from valley bottoms at 1,200 meters to towering summits like Marmolada at 3,343 meters, these seasons bring a mix of crisp air, changing foliage, and peaceful landscapes.

Spring tends to be cooler, with temperatures in March averaging -6°C at 2,000 meters and gradually warming to around 0°C by May. Autumn, by contrast, offers milder days, with September temperatures ranging from 5°C to 12°C at the same altitude, cooling to -3.5°C by November. Rainfall is less frequent than in summer, with spring averaging 31 rainy days and autumn only 21, making both seasons perfect for flexible outdoor activities.

The Dolomites’ weather can change quickly, influenced by competing Mediterranean and Northern European systems. This creates opportunities for adaptable adventures—even when rain or snow appears, it’s often possible to escape bad weather by moving just a valley over. With fewer tourists, customizable programs, and the charm of quieter trails, spring and autumn in the Dolomites promise unforgettable experiences for those who embrace the rhythm of these seasons.
