UIAGM stands for Union Internationale des Associations de Guides de Montagnes, whilst IFMGA is the English abbreviation standing for International Federation of Mountain Guide Associations.
Before applying, every aspiring UIAGM/IFMGA guide needs to be a very competent mountaineer. They are then selected via practical exams to take part in the extended course lasting 4 years. After passing final exams, they are then able to take on the responsibility of looking after clients’ safety and wellbeing. This is precisely why a UIAGM/IFMGA certified mountain guide guarantees professional and competency standards besides the sheer passion only offered by the ones living and breathing the mountains 365 days a year. FreeDolomites is a small group of guides who are proud to put all the passion and expertise into organising customised plans for their clients.
