Snoshoeing basics: a different way to live the dolomites in Winter

In this page, we would introduce some examples of low-difficulty snowshoeing itineraries. Therefore itineraries suitable for beginners without much training, who want to look out onto this fantastic-winter world. The itineraries described here take place in the forest or on the mountain pastures, and have slight slopes and limited height differences. Instead, the common features with the more demanding itineraries, is the Dolomite scenery and views of great effect!

VAL FIORENTINA – STAULANZA PASS: at the sight of Pelmo

PASSO STAULANZA- FORCELLA FORATA – RIFUGIO CITTA DI FIUME – PASSO STAULANZA

From the pass, we soon reach the majestic north faces of the Pelmo, one of the most imposing Dolomite massifs. Along terrain whose gradient sometimes puts us to the test, we reach the beautiful Forcella Forata. From this point, a slightly downhill track takes us to the Città di Fiume refuge, where we can find a well-deserved refreshment.

LEVEL: 200 meters uphill and downhill.

LUNCH: packed or in the refuge.

VAL ZOLDANA – CASERA STAULANZA: a basic snowshoeing for families

CASERA STAULANZA – CASERA FONTANAFREDDA – COL DAI DOF – CASERA STAULANZA

This itinerary is not far from the ski lifts, even tough is very isolated. We’ll wander on the white mantle of snow passing small wooden shelters and larger “casera” huts in a bucolic landscape.

LEVEL: 250 meters uphill and downhill

LUNCH: packed lunch.

VAL BADIA – PEDRACES: reaching a hut in the Winter

LITTLE CHURCH SAS DELA CRUSC – RANCH DA ANDRE’ – LITTLE CHURCH SAS DELA CRUSC

This hike takes place in a sunny and uniquely beautiful environment. The lifts take us up to altitude and here, in the presence of the majestic walls of the Sas dela Crusc, we begin the descent that will take us to the well-deserved refreshment at the Da Andrè ranch. Here we can continue to explore the alpine pastures, among mountain huts and alpine pastures, until we return to our starting point.

VAL GARDENA – SELLA PASS: below the famous towers

SELLA PASS – MESULES WALLS – MALGA SELLA – SELLA PASS

In the vicinity of the Sella pass, we find majestic walls: this sunny itinerary leads us to wander between large boulders and open spaces.  The “malga” Sella offers us an excellent refreshment before continuing in the direction of the pass.

VAL BADIA – PRALONGIA’: the white paradise

PUNTA TRIESTE – STORES – PUNTA TRIESTE

Starting out near the Campolongo Pass, we take the ski lift up to the Pralongià area, a plateau that is used as alpine pastures in the Summer. We soon move away from the cable car along a ridge that marks the border between Val Badia and Livinalongo. Once reached the cross that marks the small Stores peak, we’ll enjoy the exceptional panoramic view over the two valleys. We retrace our steps and after refreshments in the mountain hut we start our descent on foot.

DEPTH: 150 meters uphill and 300 meters downhill.

FALCADE – SAN PELLEGRINO PASS: a sunny place

RIFUGIO FLORA ALPINA – FUCIADE REFUGE

A short but very rewarding snowshoes hike: away from the ski slopes, after a stretch in the woods, an exciting panorama opens up. We climb up along the snowy mantle on a beautiful ridge that offers us sensational views. Once in sight of the Fuciade refuge we begin the descent that takes us first to the well-deserved refreshment, and then, along an easy beaten track, back to the starting point.
