Choosing a certified mountain guide

UIAGM/IFMGA certified mountain guides, together with the mid-mountain guides, are the only internationally recognised professional instructors able to accompany people in the mountains. UIAGM stands for Union Internationale des Associations de Guides de Montagnes, whilst IFMGA is the English abbreviation standing for International Federation of Mountain Guide Associations.

Before applying, every aspiring UIAGM/IFMGA guide needs to be a very competent mountaineer. They are then selected via practical exams to take part in the extended course lasting 4 years. After passing final exams, they are then able to take on the responsibility of looking after clients’ safety and wellbeing.

This is precisely why a UIAGM/IFMGA certified mountain guide guarantees professional and competency standards besides the sheer passion only offered by the ones living and breathing the mountains 365 days a year.
